Director Planet B.io joins board of BioTech Delft

As of June 1st, Planet B.io director Cindy Gerhardt joined the board of BioTech Delft, a foundation that organises biotechnology education at postgraduate level.

The foundation “Biotechnology Academy Delft” (short: BioTech Delft) manages the external courses given by the department of Biotechnology at the Delft University of Technology. Their aim is to stimulate high-level education activities, that are leading edge in their specific biotechnology field. The activities are aimed at scientists and engineers studying for an advanced degree (PhD or PDEng) and/or working at universities and industries.

"We believe there is a lot of synergy between the Biotech Campus Delft and the post-master program of BioTech Delft. In the end we share the common goal to support scientists from academia and industry to get access to the latest state-of-the-art knowledge in the field of biotechnology," says Cindy Gerhardt, director Planet B.io. "Moreover, through this collaboration we will make the courses more widely accessible to the Planet B.io ecosystem."

Jack Pronk, head of the Biotechnology Department of TU Delft adds: “I welcome this strengthening of contacts between BioTech Delft and the Biotech Campus Delft and hope that access to first-class advanced courses will help attract even more innovative industrial biotechnology companies to Delft”.

Courses

In their courses, BioTech Delft invites a wide variety of influential, international lecturers from universities and industries who present their vision on biotechnology and share their expert knowledge and expertise. The Advanced Courses are short, in-depth courses, which are full-time and delivered in a timespan of either one or two weeks.

Coming up next is the course 'Modelling and Computation for Micro-organisms in Bioprocesses', which will take place in November this year. The course blends contributions from different disciplines, i.e. bioprocess technology, applied physics, transport phenomena, molecular biology and biomedical sciences. They all address different elements on the coupling between several time and length scales in the simulation of different bioprocesses (e.g. bioreactor and bioprocess operation, microbial strain improvement, tissue and organ cultivation, plant design and integration). The industrial relevance is underlined by the venue being the Biotech Campus Delft.

The total portfolio consists of eight Advanced Courses; six are organised annually, two every other year:
Annually:
- Biofilm
- Bioprocess Design (in partnership with Wageningen University & Research)
- Downstream Processing
- Environmental Biotechnology
- Microbial Physiology and Fermentation Technology
- Modelling and Computation for Micro-organisms in Bioprocesses
Every other year:
- Biocatalysis and Protein Engineering
- Integrated Multi-Omics approaches for Improvement of Industrial Microbes

Discounts

Planet B.io and BioTech Delft are happy to celebrate our partnership by offering the companies associated to Planet B.io a special rate for courses organised by BioTech Delft. SMEs settled at the Biotech Campus Delft will receive up to 50% discount, and SMEs from Planet B.io’s network outside of Delft also get discounts up to 30%. Details may vary per course and will be announced by Planet B.io separately.
